One Red Paperclip

One Red Paperclip

In case you haven't heard this guy's story, prepare to be amazed. And in case you did, check out the site of the guy who pulled it off.

On July 12, 2005, Kyle Macdonald placed a picture of a red paper clip on his site and offered it up for trade. His objective? To barter his way into a house, free and clear.

Now such a thing may have once been impossible. But today, we have something called the internet that seems to make such ambitions attainable to anyone with enough chutzpah.

So anyhow, Kyle made his offer. He soon received his first response from a couple of Canadian vegans (Kyle is from British Columbia himself). Their offer? A fish-shaped pen that, being vegans, they weren't really crazy about keeping.

Well, the pen was bartered for a rather bizarre-looking doorknob. Well, it turns out that the doorknob was worth a Coleman stove to another individual.

Do you see where this is leading?

To make a long story short, a year to the day after beginning his quest (and a mere 14 trades), Mr. Macdonald took ownership of a house in Kipling, Saskatchewan.

Is anyone else out there amazed and delighted by this tale? I smell a movie in the works.

Anyhow, read the ins and outs on all the trading at today's FamilyFirst site.

Who's going to come up with the next bizarre ambition?
