Petfinder.org

petfinder.jpgEverybody loves pets, don't we? I had a miniature schnauzer for fourteen wonderful years that was, quite simply, the greatest dog that the world has seen. Now, we have two cats with opposite personalities, one preferring to hide from humanity, the other out and constantly talking to you.

Unfortunately, there are lots of pets out there that need adoption. That's where today's FamilyFirst site comes in.

It's called Petfinder.com. At press time, they had 191,757 adoptable pets. They are categorized thusly: barnyard, birds, cats, dogs, horses, pigs, rabbits, reptiles, and small and furry.

And, out of curiosity, the small and furry categories include chinchillas, mice, prairie dogs, and something called a sugar glider. I wonder what that is?

But in all seriousness, these people are doing a great work. They are taking unwanted, sometimes abused animals and getting them in good shape, then letting them go to good homes. Most animals are neutered, vaccinated, etc. You generally pay a very reasonable adoption fee to take the pet home. Oh, and don't be surprised if they don't want to come visit you first! They are looking for the right homes for these critters, not just trying to get rid of them.

If you're looking for a pet, this is a wonderful place to start. These animals NEED a home, and there's no better way for you to find a pet you love!

You can also get a list of animal welfare organizations in your area. We got our talkative cat from one such near me. Needless to say, we're glad we did. :-)

So enjoy today's FamilyFirst site. And I hope you find the perfect pet!
