I'm as much into this Super Bowl as I have been for any in memory. It's between two teams that most folks didn't expect to see there. And that's when the game is at its best.
And what makes it particularly delightful is that Peyton Manning is finally getting his shot.
Now I'm not rotting against the Bears. I'll be tickled no matter which of these overlooked teams wins. But I have a special place in my heart for Peyton Manning, as well as Colts fans.
It goes back to 1983. John Elway is drafted by the Colts. He very publicly says that he will not play for them.
In other words, one man is bigger than the NFL rules, which state that to get into the league, you will play for the team that drafts you.
Unfortunately, his actions inspired others, including Peyton's brother, to do the same. It's the ultimate nose-thumbing to the fans of the slighted teams.
How do you feel about that, Colts fans? If Elway would have sucked it up and played for the team that chose him, they might have been a regular visitor to the Big Dance, instead of getting there this year for the first time since the Vietnam War.
Well, Peyton didn't refuse to play for a team that was bad at the time. And this year, it all pays off.
Today's FamilyFirst site is peytonmanning.com. Make sure you read about Manning's PayBack Foundation, helping out disadvantaged kids.
Tomorrow's site will focus on the Bears, I promise.
