Planet Dog Foundation

It all started in 1966, when mom brought home a poodle puppy. Over the next thirteen years, Frisky and I became best friends. I was a child when I got him, a man when he passed on.

I've loved dogs ever since. My wife and I raised two miniature schnauzers to old age, and now we're raising two more.

But dogs are far more than loving pets. Many of them work for a living, providing valuable services to their owners. I'll let today's FamilyFirst site, Planet Dog Foundation, explain:

In addition to being our best buddies, our dogs give back to us in countless ways. They give us wet kisses when we walk through the door, they listen when we need to talk and comfort us when we aren’t feeling well. We all know dogs have a natural capacity to make us feel better, cared for and unconditionally loved. But when working for people in need, they are capable of so much more. They visit sick children and the elderly in hospitals and uncover landmines in war zones. They alert a deaf person when someone is at the door and locate hikers lost in the mountains. They find help when their person has a seizure and assist police in dangerous patrols.

The Planet Dog Foundation is all about promoting working dogs. They do this by raising funds through the sales of their toys, along with accepting tax-deductible contributions. They use these fund to give grants to organizations that put dogs to work.

For instance, they gave Gabriel's Angels $5000. This Mesa, Arizona group delivers pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children, nurturing their ability to love and trust, thereby freeing them from the cycle of violence.

They're a great organization, and well worth supporting. Browse through their dog toys and supplies and spend a few well-needed bucks. Your dog will love you for it, and so will the grantees.
