Pocket PC Sites
June 03, 2005

Today's Family First Site is one that is really a no-brainer, from my perspective. I usually spend some time hunting for sites that are wide-ranging, interesting, and can appeal to a wide variety of cyber visitors. On some occassions, it is hard, and some times it is very easy. Today's site is one that I have been using for quite awhile, and I just never thought about sharing it until a friend asked me a question. For that question, you'll have to read the rest of the review.
The name of the site is Pocket PC Sites. The question I was asked was by a friend who had just purchased a new HP iPaq Pocket PC, and was looking to use the WiFi to surf the net. He wondered if there were any sites that catered to the screen dimensions of the PDA, and were useable over a wireless connection. Most web pages are designed for full size computer screens, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't always make them fit and be functional on any PDA. But thanks to this site, there is a collection of sites that cater to the PDA crowd, and all are very PDA friendly.
There are a wide variety of categories here, ranging from downloads and eBooks, to newsgroups and WiFi. What is interesting is in the Mobile-Formatted section, there are sites that are very common on the net, but the hosts have crreated PDA friendly versions, such as UPS Tracking, Amazon.com, Google, MapQuest, and many airlines. There are some sections that are PDA specific, such as for a Casio or HP. I have spent time in the eBooks section, as well as in the Mobile-Formatted one. In fact, I ordered my copy of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from my iPaq h4155. Not because I had to, but because I could.
This site has quite a few links on it. Rather than create favorites to all of them, I simply bookmarked it and go to it when I am looking for a site. Truthfully, this site is short on flashy graphics and multimedia, but that is the beauty of it. It was designed for your PDA, not for your desktop. That is why I keep it handy, and thought that sharing it with you would be a wonderful idea.
