Poetry for Kids
October 03, 1997
Poetry, when I was growing up, was a bother. It was tough enough learning to read, but having to read something that rhymed? What a pain. But as I grew older, I learned to appreciate that sort of literature, mostly thanks to a guy named Shakespeare. Today's Family Site is for kids that haven't discovered the rhyme in rhyming yet, but would like to.
It is called Poetry for Kids, and is a pleasant collection of short poems on a variety of subjects. There is one called "My Uncle Has an Ant Farm", which is about an orchestra of ants. Then one called "Useless Wristwatch" tells about a watch with no hands, and my favorite, "Ogden Meyers Spun His Tires", which is about a man who claims he was the victim of highway "rubbery".
This is a cute site, with a lot of potential for entertainment value. Take a trip here, and enjoy the poems. Oh, and, uh, heed the warning to NOT drink milk while reading these poems. It may come out your nose.
