Portable Apps

How often do you go all day long using only ONE computer?

Perhaps that's the norm for you. But it's a growing trend that people use multiple computers on a daily basis.

Perhaps you have learned to store your internet bookmarks on a flash drive. Good on you! It's a simple way to blast into your favorite websites. But why stop there?

Today's FamilyFirst pick may well change the way you use a Windows computer.

It's called PortableApps.com. It's pretty amazing.

One of the biggest pains about Windows has long been that apps write files all over the place. In the DOS days, you could simply copy a directory full of files to a different machine, and they would run fine. But when your app writes to Windows\System, Winsdows\System32, and other obscure locations, there's no moving it around from machine to machine.

But PortableApps write themselves ENTIRELY to a flash drive or a CD. You can run them perfectly on any Windows computer, even a virtual one on Linux like I have!

The apps are open-source, freeware, or shareware. You'll be amazed at all of the applications you can run completely portably from now on!
