Powers of Persuasion
January 05, 1999
During World War II, the country was united in a way that it hasn't been since. The threat to not only our nation, but also to our way of life was very real, and this threat brought us together. One of the nostalgic memories of this period was the posters that were printed by the US government to keep moral up, and help remind us what we were fighting for.
Today's FamSite is a visit to the National Archives, and a look at some of those posters. The artwork is quite interesting, sort of a deco-style, but the message of each poster is quite clear. Everything from women in the workplace to recruiting posters to warning about the dangers and brutality of Nazism are featured here. There is even a sound clip from the song "Any Bonds Today?" which encouraged the buying of war bonds for the cause.
Enjoy your stop here, and reflect on the meaning of these posters. We can truly learn from the mistakes of the past, so we don't repeat them in the future. Enjoy your stop here today.
