Pyramids: the Inside Story

Is it just me, or has there been a whole bunch of stuff on TV lately about pyramids?

My staple of channels on the Ron list on my remote, which include History, History International, the various flavors of Discovery, and National Geographic have all had fascinating stories about pyramids in Egypt lately.

And now PBS joins the fray, with their always-excellent Nova series featuring Pyramids: the Inside Story coming up on August 1st, 2006.

Today's FamilyFirst site is PBS's official one, and it's a multimedia blast!

For instance, take a tour of the greatest of the pyramids, that erected for Khufu. You'll need your Quicktime player as you enter the mighty structure and look around virtually.

Read the interview with archaeologist Mark Lehner as he explains where the quarries were located that provided the massive blocks necessary for the pyramids' construction, and how the actual manpower to build them is far less than many historians have imagined.

Learn how to decode hieroglyphs (there's a word that defies i before e!) and impress your friends.

Also find out just how stinkin' BIG a pyramid is! Think of a structure that dwarfs the Statue of Liberty or Big Ben's tower.

As of press time, the show airs tonight. Enjoy the site, then tune in to PBS and see the show!
