R. Lee Ermey's Official Website

His face is very recognizable. His voice reminds you of an old "B" war movie from the '50's. Astute movie watchers will find him in many supporting roles in many current films. Stanley Kubrick gave him his most famous role, one that was type-casting at it's best, since he played a character that he had lived for years. The person I am describing is the subject of today's Family First Site. So grab your gear and lets get rollin'.

The name of today's web site is Semper Fi. It is the official site for R. Lee Ermey, USMC (ret.), or as he is known to his fans, Gunny Ermey. He is well known for his film roles in "Full Metal Jacket", "Dead Man Walking", "The Boys in Company C", and many others. But before he was an actor, he spent 11 years as a United States Marine. He was a drill instructor at MCRD San Diego, and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was medically retired in 1972, and using the GI Bill, went to school to study drama. It was while he was in the Philippines that Francis Ford Coppola cast him in his first film "Apocalypse Now".

At this site you can read about the Gunny and what he is currently doing. He is hosting "Mail Call" on the History Channel cable show. But the main feeling that I get from this site is about how much R. Lee cares for his country, and how deep his patriotic roots are. There is a forum to discuss world matters with other visitors. You can chat online with others, as well as leave feedback for the site (the best way to communicate with the Gunny). There are books, movies, DVDs, and other items available for sale here, and each can be personally autographed by R. Lee himself.

You will find a lot of interesting material at this site. R. Lee Ermey is proud of his country, proud of his nation, and proud of what he has done for both of them. His pride shows in his website.

    Dear Mr. Emery,

My husband and I love to watch your show. He was in the Air Force of 10 1/2 years.

I am starting us a new business and would like your feedback on it. I am offering hand made tote bags with my own embroidered designs on the for Military families. One one side will be "My ____ Serves Proudly in the U S ____", on the other side will be the song verse of Eternal Father for that branch.

I hope to be able to help unite and support military families in this way.

    Please e-mail me at la_stitchart@att.net

Thank You for your time and God Bless

    Gunny,
You are doing a great job on behalf of our Corps and the troops. Keep up the good work !!! The best eight years of my life was spent in the Corps...1961-1968, RVN 66,67,68. DaNang, Dong Ha, and points North and West. Have you run into Frank Jones? Another old Marine turned actor. I worked with him several years on the Inglewood Police Department in California. Currently I am a small town police chief in the Nebraska, enough of that personal crap... Keep up the good work.

Hey Gunny, Just got off of the phone with my youngest son who is stationed over in Okie. Said he met you today over at the PX (young L/Cpl, said his dad was a USMC tanker, Vietnam era. That's tanker in terms of armor and firepower). Hell Gunny ya got him all "pumped up", you made his day. Getting to talk with a movie star, and Old Corps Marine was a good thing. Thanks brother, not just for taking the time to talk to Dominic, but for all you do for our Corps, and our young brothers. If ever up around that manure pile called San Francisco let me know (left my E mail address). I'd be honored to buy you a beer or two at the Marines Memorial.

PS. Understand you joined our Corps in 69. If you went throgh boot camp at MCRD San Diego, and were not an 0-300 there is a good chance you and I may have met when you went up to ITR at Camp Pendleton. I was stationed with 2nd ITR for a while. If you pulled any guard duty at 2nd ITR in San Onofre in early 69 to around Sept. of 69 you and I definately spent a little time together. Yeah,if you were there it may not have been all warm and fluffy, but we did get you to bed, tucked you in, tried to get your brain housing group to function after boot camp, and we did what we could to make sure that you didn't get lost on your way to and from the chow hall. Hope we din't leave any long lasting scars. Even if you and I didn't spend time together at San Onofre, I bet that we still probably chewed some of the same dirt at one point or the other. Most Marines do.

    Gunny,

WE in CO need help. We want to put on one of the largest Support our Troops concert/ralleys and WE NEED great motivational speakers. My two boys are both Marines, and one of my boys was over in Bahrain two years ago when you came through. He has a picture of you with him. He was soo proud. I came across that picture the other day and I thought how great it would be if we could get you to help us. All proceeds go to Comforts of Home supported by the Northglenn CO Elks Club. I have found most support ralleys end up being boring and YAWN-CITY.. i want this to be inspirational.. i want it to be FUN and i want it to ROCK... i want people to look forward to next year... CAN YOU HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP????

    Hello Gunny!
I'm a former Marine, and I have a quick question for you. I was wondering if you know how to look up what ribbons and badges you may have earned when you EAS'd. I believe I may have a couple more from when we closed the Base in the P.I. back in '92. Much appreciated Devil Dog!

    Citizens For Veterans’ Rights

    March 16th 2007 Protest

    Statement of Purpose

The tragic death at the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center of Justin Paul Bailey, 27, a Marine combat Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom raises numerous questions about the competence of the administration at the Healthcare Center.

The United States of America is at war. Our returning veterans and those who served in the past deserve to be treated with dignity and to receive the medical care they earned.

Citizens For Veterans’ Rights has long raised questions about the medical care of Veterans and land use policy at the West Los Angeles Veterans’ Affairs Healthcare Center.

The property at the West LA VA Healthcare Center was donated by deed to the U.S. Government in 1888 by generous California citizens to establish a permanent home for the health care of military Veterans.

Renewed attempts by the WLA VA Healthcare Center’s administration to use the land in contravention to the intent of those families who donated the land, their heirs, veterans, veterans groups and community stakeholders -- combined with the questionable circumstances in the deaths of at least 4 other Veterans in the past several months -- make it imperative that the community coalesce to raise awareness about the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center’s administration.

We ask that you join us in a peaceful protest at the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd. at 8:30 am on March 16th, 2007 and by lending your organization’s name to our cause.

The protest will focus on the following four issues:

    • The medical care and rehabilitation needs of America’s Veterans at the WLA VA Healthcare Center during times of peace and war.

    • Land Use policy at the West Los Angeles VA as it affects the care and rehabilitation of America’s Veterans.

    • A mandatory VA budget that meets the needs of all Veterans.

    • Honesty and transparency with regard to West Los Angeles VA and their relations with Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations and Community Stakeholders.

    Gunny

I have just designed and printed a poster that will be sold at USMEX Lejeune.

I have a contract to do a poster signing 31 Mar and 1 Apr 07. In addition on 15 Apr I will do a signing at a local rest. The Pilot House, located on the river front here in Wilmingtoin NC.

All net proceeds for the poster will be donated to the USMC Wounded Warriors Fund via 2nd Marine Div,

Col Grimes the executive director. To verify me as ligit you may contact LTCOL Thomas Siebenthal OIC IIMarine Expeditionary Force, Injured Support Unit 910-451-3115.

Aslo have done one of you, too bad it broke my printer, something about the not liking to print a Marin's liken. It is a highly trained printer likes only SCPO's E8's pulling 7's and pushing 9's.

Back on coure... hwere can I send the picture files?

I have done additional posters, all original, Marine, Navy, Army, Air orce, and Coaties.

Quick Bio retired 1988 MMCS(SW)(SS) did great untim 2001 9/11 then I guess effected by agent orange, I really though it was bug spray, and things went somewhat down hill, a steap hill, but bottomed out, doing well and have tried to use the gift a have been given , from the flag quarters above, to give something back to the troops.

I have been trying to set up some kind of PR connection with FOX but all I hit is BS, no returned calls, ha, ha, etc.

S a person of some "publik persona" I would formally request the assistance brother-in-arms. It is for a great cause,,,the guys...they all seem so young or I am just getting toooooo old.

I was In a few scenes with you but they were cut thanks to Phillip Rhee. I would like to see you put together or direct a movie. Something about the Corps. A movie about Carlos Hatchcock Is one Idea come to my mind. I have several other ideas which come to mind. If this seem as an interest to you send me an email I would love to be an extra or have a small part in it. I didn't have much a chance in Best of the Best 3. Semper FI!

    Hi Gunny,
I would just like to say that the last movie I saw with mt father before he passed away was The BYS In Company C. Like you he was a Marine. He is buried in his Dress Blues. He knew right away that you had to have been a real D.I. because your performance could never be taught or learned by a actor who has not been in The Marines.
I am also a veteran, and I would like to thank you for all you do for the Troops who are in harms way now. I was not a Marine like you and my dad, I wanted to be a Naval Aviator. I would like to know how a Hard Nosed Marine goes from being a D.I. to making movies? I am watching a comedy now where you play a D.I. but you are a ghost. Another outstanding performance from you. This one is called The Frighteners.
I love Mail Call, and I vsit Paris Island often. I live about 90 minutes from there.
I will always remember the day my dad and I went and I saw you for the first time. My father, like you LOVED HIS BELOVED MARINE CORPS, and he enjoyed the movie vry much. I wish he would have lived to see some of your later work.
Again, THank You for all you do for ALL TROOPS EVERYWHERE. God Bless You, And The United States Marine Corp.

    Dear Gunny,
I just wanted to thank Sgt. Weight for the info about Starbucks. Like you have said, no matter what we think about the war, we NEED TO GIVE THE TROOPS 100% OF OUR SUPPORT.
No more $4.00 cups of coffee from those scumbags at starbucks for the Ward family. I hope that you can tell them what all of us Vets, and family members of those in harms way what we think of them as only A REAL MARINE D.I. CAN!!! YOU HAVE A WAY OF MAKING PEOPLE LIKE THAT KNOW WHAT WE THINK OF THEM. Thanks again to Sgt. Wright for bringing this to our attention.
Again, GOD BLESS YOU GUNNY, AND GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES MARINES, AND ALL OF THE MEN AND WOMEN IN HARMS WAY NO MATTER WHAT BRANCH THEY ARE SERVING IN!!!

Sargeant- I've seen "Mail Call" and most of it is about blowing stuff up. I've got a suggestion for you that would be a "real blast". How about doing a show on the R&R spots the troops visited during Nam- then and now? I just came back from 2 months in Pattaya, Thailand. Hold your fire Gunny- none of what you might be thinking. I'm almost 5 years your senior so most of what I have are memories. I worked at the US Naval Ship Repair Office, Singapore from May 70 till Sept 71. It was an offshoot of Subic Bay. I've been going to Thailand every winter since 1996. Married a Thai woman who died 2 1/2 years after we got married. She died here in the States Jan 07. I don't know if you read these postings or if they are exercises in futility. i guess if I hear from u I will know.
