RedHat.com

Today's FamilyFirst site is that of a corporation that I firmly support. In fact, I am even a stockholder.
This particular entity has become the frontrunner in a movement known for its community outreach. It also sells a product that is proven tough and reliable by its open-source versions.
The product is Linux. The corporation is RedHat. The site is redhat.com.
Linux, by its very nature, resists anyone saying “this is the only way to go.” And for that reason, RedHat has its detractors. RedHat has produced such standards as the rpm, which eliminates the need for compiling from source code, a daunting process to many who are used to pointing and clicking via a GUI.
The fact that this company has become a definer of standards has made many Linux enthusiasts fearful of its power. After all, open-source is all about sharing, not so much about making money. And the fact is that RedHat is a VERY successful company.
However, in this author's humble opinion, Linux NEEDS companies like this to show that there is money to be made (and saved) by using Linux. RedHat excels at this.
In addition, they provide excellent training, such as the course I took a year ago which set me on the road towards integrating Linux within the Windows environment. Not only have I managed to implement free Fedora within my company environment, we are also paying for RedHat's Enterprise Linux, at a great savings to using Windows Server 2003.
So spend some time at today's FamilyFirst site. Open-source fans, remember that RedHat is winning thousands over to your movement every day. Frustrated Windows users, consider giving stable and secure Linux a try. And RedHat? Keep up the good work!
