Rich Satire
March 27, 2006
What hath Ron Popeil wrought?
Ron Popeil, in case you didn't know, is a brilliant inventor and marketer who, in the 70's, gave us the Popeil Pocket Fisherman, the Veg-O-Matic, and the venerably silly Mr. Microphone (“Hey good lookin'! We'll be back to pick you up later!”).
Well, Mr. Popeil spawned a veritable cornucopia of pitchmen who have taken advantage of off-time programming on cable channels to produce “infomercials,” which are thirty minute commercials (that we often, inexplicably, can't resist watching).
Today's FamilyFirst site pokes fun at baldness remedies, six-pack-producing-ab machines, and unbelievably efficient (or so they promise) weight loss formulas. It's Called Rich Satire, and here's their mission:
Are you looking for a laugh or a break in the day? We designed this site so we could make fun of all the outrageous Infomercials that we all see on a daily basis. Are you familiar with the expression "Rich Satire"? Surprisingly I'm finding that a lot of people aren't.. Well, it simply means really good satire, but now it's the name of our D-List Celebrity Pitchman.
You'll be AMAZED at their hair loss-stopping secret, Follicle Frenzy! You'll be STUNNED at what Rapido Weight Loss will do for you! And you'll be BLOWN AWAY at future sales pitch parodies. The site just went online in March, but content is being added rapidly.
It's hoot, and it comes with an online store where you can get a genuine diet plan, as well as a genuine fitness over 40 guide (which I could use [sigh]), and other good stuff.
Bookmark this one, friends, it's only going to get funnier.
