Sandin Wilson

One of the things I like about living in Portland, Oregon is the local music scene. There are so many small clubs and hotels that feature live artists that on any given night you can see and hear any type of music. With such a large number of venues that feature music, it stands to reason that there is a lot of talent that can fill the demand for musicians. I recently found out my daughter's softball coach had been playing at a local place just across the river from where we live. It is indeed a small world. Today the Family First Site wants to visit the site of one of these local musicans who is making a name for himself on the local level, and (if my prediction holds correct), will make a bigger impact in the future.
The site is called the Sandin Wilson web site. Sandin is a fellow Oregonian who discovered his call in life at an early age, when he started playing drums and piano at age 10. By 16, he had played Carnegie Hall as a member of the "America's Youth in Concert" orchestra, and toured Europe. He has played with many groups, most notably QuarterFlash ("Harden My Heart"), NuShooz, and Michael Allen Harrison. He is in constant demand as a studio musican and has recorded on over 100 local and national CDs and recordings.
He recently released his first solo album "Into My World". The CD is a unique blend of original, contemporary funk/jazz instrumentals, beautiful lush ballads, and melody-rich vocal tunes, in the style of the Yellowjackets, Dave Weckl, Ricky Peterson, and Spyro Gyra. Beautiful bass melodies, mixed with Paul Mazzio's world-class muted trumpet, make for a unique and breathtaking sound. Sandin's bass work, arrangements, and distinctive vocals are highlighted throughout the CD. The album received four stars in Jazz Scene magazine. At this site, you can listen to the title track, and purchase the CD.
If you are ever in the Portland area, be sure to check out the local music scene. I am sure that Sandin will be playing somewhere. If he is, it will be an evening to enjoy and remember.
