We all love our cars. Well, maybe not ALL the time. When mine has a dead battery, I get annoyed at it. But by and large, we baby our modes of transportation.

But one thing we DON'T like to do is fill the blasted things up with expensive gas.

Sometimes, solutions to problems involve changing the way we look at them. That principle is known as paradigm shift. Here's a simple example:

I want to sail across the ocean as fast as possible. The fastest boat will get me to Europe in two days. That's not soon enough.

Wait a minute, why not fly?

I could have gone nuts trying to find a boat that would get me there a few minutes earlier, but instead, I shifted my paradigms and decided to fly.

The owner of today's FamilyFirst site has shifted the paradigms of the problems of traffic congestion and expensive gasoline to come up with 247 tips to put an end to both problems.

The site is called SaveGasNow.org.

Basically, we need to rethink how we are dealing with the aforementioned annoyances. But also, a little well-applied common sense can be a big help. Having some insight on the physics involved in fuel consumption completes the package.

I'll share a couple of his tips with you.

Idling is VERY bad. It gets you 0 miles to the gallon. If you're sitting still for a long period of time, turn the motor off. Restart it WITHOUT giving it any gas. If you're idling for shorter periods, put your car into neutral instead of drive.

Sign up to get all 247 of his tips. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of spending a big chunk of my paycheck on fuel. I'll be spending less from now on.
