Songfacts

songfacts.gifToday’s FamilyFirst site pays homage to that sweetest of art forms, the song.

How many times have you heard a song that you liked and wondered “what was that song REALLY about?”

Well, even though the site relies pretty heavily on opinion, it attempts to keep things on an objective level by making sure that “facts” come from good sources. There is a comment area after the song facts for (moderated) comments from individuals.

The fact is that this site is a VERY impressive collection of knowledge about the subject matter of the lyrics of hundreds of songs.

It is also well indexed, you can search by song or by artist.

You’ll be impressed at how many obscure songs are represented. You may also be just a bit baffled by some seemingly glaring omissions. For instance, I was eager to find out who was being roasted by Dylan in “Ballad of a Thin Man,” but alas, it’s not there.

However, its human side aside, I see many of you bookmarking this one and returning over and over, as songs with perplexing subject matter are heard by you and the possibility of decoding their meaning brings you back.

Perhaps the ultimate compliment I can pay it is that it’s on MY (very short) list of sites I visit repeatedly.

So have fun, search, register (so you can let your opinions be heard), and enjoy this knowledgeable, wonderful, human site.
