Superman's Fortress of Solitude
February 15, 2005

"Look, up in the sky. It's a bird... it's a plane... no, it's Superman".
So went one of the most memorable openings in the golden age of radio, the show being the Adventures of Superman. Starting as a comic book hero in 1939, the man of steel has transcended all forms of entertainment and media. He is an universaly recognized icon, one that transcends all languages. He has provided many generations when with quality entertainment, and will continue to do so for years. Today's Family First Site takes a look at a site that celebrates the whole culture surrounding Superman.
The site is called the Fortress of Solitude Super Network. It is a fan maintained site that has just about everything you would want to know about Superman here. The Fortress of Solitude in comics was where Superman went to get away from it all, sort of his home away from home. At this site, cybervisitors can get away from it all as well. There are sections relating to Superboy, Supergirl, abd their superpets. In Superboy Lives, there are new stories about the boy of steel in narrative form with artwork. Starwinds Howl is the epic story of Krypto the superdog. There is a great online store where you can buy many types of items, such as books, movies, trading cards, etc.
The real gem of this site is in the Truth and Justice section where you can watch the original Superman cartoons from the 1940s. These are the ones by Max Fleischer Studios, and Famous Studios. There are 14 of them, all for your viewing pleasure. These are considered some of the finest cartoons ever made, both in terms of artwork and in the atmosphere they created, as they were true film noir in their presentation.
So if you have ever read a Superman comic, or watched a movie or movie serial, then this site will have some interest for you. If you haven't visited with Superman in many years, like myself, then a whole world of discovery awaits you, with many hours of entertainment ahead.
