Surviving the Dust Bowl

One of the major events of this century was the Great Depression of the 1930's. Accompanying that financial disaster was an ecological one whose effects changed the way our country farmed, and shaped an entire generation's outlook on life.

Called Surviving The Dust Bowl, this edition of the PBS program The American Experience chronicles this event, and all that led up to it, and those who survived it. Here you can read their accounts (and listen as well, courtesy of RealPlayer or RealAudio). There is a teacher's guide to enhance the understanding of the material, as well as a bibliography for further reading and viewing. What really makes the site stand out is the ability to see and hear the people whose lives were affected by this event.

Enjoy your stop here, and enjoy the other PBS site as well.
