Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival
November 01, 2007
Okay, we're going to take a slightly weird turn here.
When I was 14 years old, I went on a Canadian fishing trip with my father, an uncle, and a couple of their friends. We caught some seriously big northern pike, and it was a wonderful experience I'll never forget.
One of the amazing things I learned on the trip was just how stinking big a moose was.
I didn't actually see a moose. Instead, what I saw was a pile of moose droppings that must have been three feet across. I'll bet it weighed at least twenty pounds.
Friends, anything that can leave behind such a mass is BIG!
Anyhow, I've elicited lots of laughs in the years since by retelling that story. And then, today, what did I stumble upon?
The Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival!
This celebration, with an additional benefit of raising funds for a good cause, takes place each July. And a tremendous amount of fun is had by all with contests involving shellacked moose poop.
And by the way, if you'll check out the mass of the aforementioned waste product, you, like me, will come to the conclusion that moose are HUGE!
