TerraServer USA
May 23, 2004
As the power of the Internet increases, so do the uses for it. One that I just found intrigued me, no so much for the site itself, but for the information contained.
In order to show off the power of SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft has put up the world's largest online database. It contains over 3.5 Terabytes of information, and presents it in a most unusual way. They have taken pictures from the USGS and Spin-2 space satellites, and made them available for viewing and downloading. Here you can search for you own neighborhood and maybe even see your own house. I was able to see the hospital I work at, but my house was not one of the areas available.
This is an excellent site to see the power of the Internet, as well as the truly amazing pictures that can be seen from outer space. Like most Microsoft sites, it is well maintained and run.

I found 3 of the 4 schools here where my son attended, where I live now, and where I lived at the time the pic was taken. Pretty cool. I do wonder what they did with all the cars . . ..
