The Congressional Medal of Honor Society

Last week we visited a site that honored the Americans who defended our country during one of our darkest moments. Today we visit a site that honors the servicemen of our country that have received the highest award that our nation can award.

The site is the online presence of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force that can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. It is awarded by the President who is acting as a representative of Congress, hence it's name. Over the years there have been 3410 recipients, and 3429 medals awarded (19 men have been awarded the medal twice). Here you can find out about the history of the medal, find out about the museum honoring the recipients, and read about the most recent medals awarded. There are also links to other pages where one can read more about these American heroes.

Reading the citations for one of these medals is to truly understand what our country is all about. It makes one proud to be an American.
