The Educational Theatre Association
October 20, 2005
Today’s FamilyFirst site celebrates the theatre. Specifically, it encourages students learning the thespian arts.
The site is the official one of EdTA. The Educational Theatre Association, founded in 1929, is the professional association for theatre education. EdTA’s mission is to make theatre a part of lifelong learning. The Association’s major areas of effort—educational development, teacher training, and advocacy—serve to accomplish this mission by helping to improve the learning environment in the theatre arts.
EdTA sponsors The International Thespian Society, a division of the Educational Theatre Association. It is the honorary theatre organization for students in high school and middle school. The ITS offers everything from varied performance venues to college audition opportunities to formal awards and scholarships. Since 1929, more than two million students, schools, and educators have benefited from ITS membership.
They also sponsor the International Thespian Festival, which will be held in June 2006 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Students interested in the stage arts will find a wealth of valuable info and resources here. Check out the Rehearsal Hall. College Prep will give the aspiring theatre major a head start on pursuing his/her goal. In the studio, you can learn valuable info about making theatre from some distinguished teachers and theatre. Study acting with Jon Jory. Let Bruce Miller walk you through your first directing gig. Visit the online shop and learn how to build and hang a drop, paint faux wood grain, or run props.
Check out Dramatics magazine, too. It’s a monthly periodical for the aspiring, or already successful, thespian. You can subscribe directly from the website.
So you students interested in the stage, enjoy this site, and may it contribute to your reaching for your dreams!
