The Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts

disney_shorts.gifToday’s FamilyFirst pick is The Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts. This site covers all of the short subjects Disney made between the years 1922 to the present.

In 1919, an ambulance driver by the name of Walt Disney began looking for work as a cartoonist. We’re talking about a POLITICAL cartoonist!

Fortunately for us, that didn’t pan out. Instead, he ended up forming his own company and producing “Laugh-O-Grams,” short film subjects.

It wasn’t too long before he came up with a character by the name of Mouse. Perhaps you’ve heard of him?

But Mickey was preceded by a character named Alice, who was a very popular fixture of the 1920’s.

This site is a meticulous wonder, giving details on hundreds of shorts produced by Disney. You will gain a profound sense of the history that this man personally was responsible for. His creative genius cut a very wide swath across American culture. Kids began loving his work in the 20's, and have never stopped. His humor was sophisticated enough for adults to appreciate, as well.

You’ll end up spending hours here, if you’re not careful ;-).
