The Endurance
October 23, 2001
The stories of great explorers that have opened the unknown parts of the planet are numerous, and quite adventure filled. But none have quite matched the subject of today's FamSite for the sheer magnitude of what was accomplished, and how it was done.
Called The Endurance, it is a site dedicated to the journey of Sir Ernest Shackelton in 1914 to the Antarctica. While only one day away from arriving at the continent, his ship the Endurance became trapped and destroyed by the ice that had entrapped it. Here you will find chronicled the story of the survival of the crew; the incredible journey made to get help, and the dramatic rescue of the survivors. This is one of the most incredible adventures ever recorded.
So stop by this exhibit which is being presented by the American Museum of Natural History. It will be both entertaining and educational.
