The Next Total Solar Eclipse: August 1, 2008
"Then you flew your Lear Jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun"

Carly Simon, You're So Vain

If you fly to Nova Scotia, you're going to miss this one. You need to be a bit north of Nova Scotia, and if you want to view the eclipse at its maximum two-and-a-half-minutes of totality, you actually need to be in Nadym, located in north-central Russia.

The eclipse crosses the Arctic regions of the earth, including Greenland, Canada, Russia, and northern China.

It'll be very cool, in more than one sense.

Today's FamilyFirst pick is dedicated to this eclipse.

You learn all about eclipses in general, and this total solar eclipse in particular.

It also talks about the period of totality, and how one is on the way which will last an amazing seven minutes and fourteen seconds!

It'll be in the year 2150, so you had better start taking care of your health now if you hope to be there.
