The Phantom of the Opera
April 06, 2006
Well, on March 31, my wife managed to get me to attend a touring musical.
That's the equivalent of getting a vegan to dive into a big, juicy plate of steak tartare.
Now don't get me wrong. I enjoy music as much as anyone alive. It's just that The Phantom of the Opera just seemed, I don't know, kind of like watching Beaches. Not a great place for a guy, you know what I mean?
Well, I must tell you, I was blown away by the touring ensemble's depiction of the story of a lonely, dangerous individual and his love for an up-and-coming young singer.
Ergo, today's FamilyFirst site is the official one for Andrew Lloyd Webber's traveling production of The Phantom of the Opera.
The fact is that I learned a lot about the play and the story it's based on perusing the site. I was fascinated to learn this:
The Phantom of the Opera is the jewel in the crown of the Really Useful Group's copyrights. In London there has never been a seat unsold, and the musical has achieved in excess of 99% of potential capacity wherever it has been presented. It is estimated that over 52 million people have seen the show and the box office gross world-wide stands at nearly £900 million. Awards include the Laurence Olivier and Evening Standard Award for Best Musical and seven Tony Awards.
I know that the production I watched in Dallas was sold out. My wife scored the tickets far in advance online.
There are tons of photos, you can purchase tickets online, read about current cast members, and visit the forum of fellow fans.
Enjoy, folks! And don't forget to keep the Phantom's seat reserved for the next show . . .
