Certain inventions change everything.
For example, we Baby Boomers can remember when color TV became commonly available. We grew up watching black and white. When our parents sprang for color, the world suddenly became a very colorful place indeed.
When FM stereo became commonplace in the 70's, we no longer had to listen to tinny sounding music which was plagued by signals fading in and out, as well as static caused by lightning.
Then, there was the advent of the WorldWide Web. Hoo, boy, THAT was a biggy!
Today's familyFirst pick is the Internet Archive wayback Machine's look at Web Pioneers.
For example, we all know that yahoo! was one of the web's original sites, going into business in 1994. But do you know which site featured the world's first webcam?
It was the Trojan Room Coffee Machine. Tired of walking down three flights of stairs only to find an empty coffee pot, the engineers at ATM Networks wired up a camera to keep an eye on the pot, then put its signal out there for all to see.
See other familiar faces way back when like IMDB.com, Amazon, and Web Crawler, once king of the search engines.
