Toys for Tots

Today's Christmas-time Family First site features the site of a program that has been around for over 200 years. Actually the organization that sponsors it has been around that long, not the program. But it is one that everyone has heard of, and is currently being featured in one of the most original and charming Public Service Announcements I have ever seen.

The program is the Toys For Tots programs, and is sponsored by the United States Marines. Yes, I mean THOSE United States Marines. One of our proudest military organizations takes time out every year (and has for the last 56 of them) to ensure that as many children as possible have a happy holiday season. They accomplish this by distributing internationally (in 1999) over 13.1 million toys to over 5.9 million children. It is the goal of this program to deliver a message of hope, which will build self-esteem and in turn motivate needy children, to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

This is a wonderful program that deserves the continued that it receives, and more. So the next time you see a Marine, remember not only is he ready to defend our country at a moments notice, but he is also, in the eyes of a lot of children, Santa. All I can say to that is "Semper Fi".

    HELLO, MY NAME IS TARSHA L. MITCHELL AND I AM A 28 YEAR OLD MOTHER OF 5 GIRLS, TEKIYAH (8 mos), TARSHIA (my little angel from above who would have been 4 yrs old), CAITLYN ( 7yrs old), KELWAN ( 9 yrs old),and SHAW'DAE (11 yrs old). MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN IN A FINANCIAL BIND FOR AT LEAST THREE MONTHS NOW, SINCE HE WAS INJURED ON HIS JOB AND UNABLE TO WORK . WE WERE NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE THANKSGIVING DINNER WE USUALLY HAVE EVERY YEAR BUT, I WANTED THE GIRLS TO AT LEAST ENJOY CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR. THEY ARE ALL HONOR ROLL STUDENTS AND THEY ALL DESERVE TO HAVE SMILES ON THEIR FACES ON CHRISTMAS MORNING. WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP THIS YEAR AND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT EVER IT IS THAT YOU COULD DO FOR US.

    I am writing to you asking for any kind of help that I might be able to get.
    I was married for 25 years and my now ex through me and our children out.
    I feel so bad because my kids use to have a big christmas but this years I can't give them one.
    I just had heart surgery and right now I can not go back to school or work.
    I get a little check each week for child support, but that goes for my rent.
    My children are older they are 18, and 17. Plus I have my granddaughter that will 3 in Jan.
    If there is anything thing that you can do to help my family I would appreciate it.

    My Name is Ronni , we are stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO we have 2 children whom we are wondering how we sign them up for toys for tots,.. I don't know if i am too late or not i just hope and pray i am not..... We have a son who will be 1 on the 16th of december and a daughter who was just born on the 30th of november.. Could you tell me who to contact to find out this information, We can't even afford a tree this year let alone the toys or clothes that the children need for christmas.. If i am too late do you by any chance know f any organizations that would be able to atleast help with a few articles of clothing possibly even or maybe even just one toy each.. These two children are all that matters to me right now i just hope that I can manage to give them a christmas.... Hope to hear from you soon...

    Hi I was woundering if you could tell me how to get help I am a single mother of three 4-3-and 8mos. And last year my two older ones did not have a christmas last year so i am trying to give them one this year but it seems like i never have extra money and i didnt know how to sign up last year for toys for tots so i was requestioning how to do so. I have a 4year old girl and a 3 year old boy and a 8 month old girl.     I am writing this letter to you because I have two beautiful active little grand daughters. And I would really love to give them a wonderful Christmas. But as you can tell by this letter I do not have the finaces to make this happen. My daughter is receiving help by foodstamps but that helps provides food for the children.     Hi my name is Alisa Carson, I am the mother of 4 children, Ethan is 5, Jaiden (a girl) is 4, DawnMaree is 3 and Tanner will be 2 in dec. I am currently unemployed Do to my son tanner who is a very sickly child. I am Barely able to make ends meet. My children are the world to me an no matter how hard I try to make their last cpl of x-mas's good ones I haven't been able to succeed.I receive food stamps and TANF but it's barely enough to keep our heat on an food in their stomachs.     Hi my name is polly and I am a young mother who didn't finsh high school.I have two children a 1yr old and a 6 month old.I know they didn't really have a christmas yet to say that they've had a bad or a good one in the past but christmas was an important holiday to me in my childhood so I wanted to make there's one also.Even Though I try my hardest to be a good mother I am stressed and I know that they can sense that and that affects them too,I think They deserve a great christmas but I just can't afford it this year so if their's any one out there that can help my children then that would be a huge help and a great blessing for me and them it would be a blessing for me to see my kids happy.

    I recently was divorced from my ex wife. I do work to make a living but I pay so much in child support that everything I have left goes toward bills. I love my kids to death and want to provide them with a christmas full of gifts. The problem is I don't know how to get signed up for toys for tots. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Obviously my story is not quite as needy as some others who have posted but if there is a way that I can get a couple gifts for my kids I would be eternally greatful.     My husband and myself have 13 children, 6 grown with families of their own (13 beautiful grand children) and 7 remaining in the home ages daughter 13,daughter 12,son 11, son 8, daughter 7, son 5 and a lil' girl of 18 months. We both have always worked to support our family. Our last lil' girl had some struggles, but by the grace of God she is perfect in every way and we have had a hard couple of years playing catch up, about 6 months ago my husbands work came to almost a stand still, which a decision had to be made, he went to New Orleans and worked on homes there for a while, an opportunity to go to OK and Texas to work in the oil field, which will hopefully get everything back on track. Due to him having to go so far,(He needs to stay away for long periods of time) I needed to quit my full time job and currently work with 3 individuals with disabilities. There's a saying , when it rains it pours and with out the Lord I know things would be alot harder, our vicheles have had to have major repairs our wash machine and dryer went out and don't get me wrong I know it could be worse and pray our storm is about over, but I need to find in our area, where we can go for help for some gifts for the kids for Christmas. We know Christmas is not all about gifts, but at the same time it's not that easy for a child to understand. It's very Humbling asking for help, but at the same time I guess everyone needs to be humbled at one time or another. Any information that you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.     I am a mother of two boy one 8 and one 11 who will not even have a Christmas tree. My husband and my self took sick early on this year and have been out of work. We are just making it so we have no over for things like a Christmas or toys this year which is devastating for a child of they're age and for two parents who would give the world for them. I have been waking up for the last two month depress that come the 25 of December my two boys will be crushed. My oldest son came to me and ask if he could stay home the first week of school. I asked him why and he responded by saying every year when you return the teacher ask you to write a paper saying what you received for Christmas and if you enjoyed it. He then told me that they make you share this paper with the class. I thought my heart would fall out of my chest and on to the floor. So I have been praying asking god to give him strength alone with the rest that have to go through a very hard ship this year. I have been e-mailing all my information different agencies and faxing also. I have not received any feedback on this matter. I have many families that are in need of help for Christmas as well as myself. These families have no way of finding resources because they don't have a phone or Internet service.     I was wandering how I cou;d sign my kid's up for toys for tots.We have 5 kid's.There is Dalton9Olivia8,Rhiannon7,Logan 3 1/2,and Wyatt 1 1/2.We only have one paycheck coming in,because we can not afford to pay a babysitter for 5 kid's.I would love to finaly be able to give them a good christmas.They deserve it.I know now we won't be able to afford christmas this year.Could you please help to put smiles on our kid's faces this year?Thank you!

We are on a very fixed income she receives Social Security and I am trying to get Disability for an epileptic problem I have had. I would love to get help for my children this Christmas. I lost my job on january 24,2007 and haven't been able to find work.     Hi my name is Sarah and I have two children and its always been hard on us but it seem's like it's alway's harder around christmas time you see my husband is disaibeled he has a seizure disorder, I have a job but it's not even part time I can't work full time because there is no daycare center's around here that will take 1 year olds. My children would really appreciate the toy's because they don't hardly get any 5 year old girl 1 year old boy.

    I am a single mother of 3; 1 girl (6yrs), 2 boys: 4yrs and 10 months and need information on getting toysfortots through your program. I do hair to make ends meet, but thats about all I can do. Previous years i was employed in management and security and was able to give my children what they wanted for christmas. Now, i'm unable to!     This year I am not able to do for my six kids because I was unabe to work, due to the baby. I have had to tell my two oldest kids that I am un able to do ant thing for them due to money. I have been in and out of the hospital for the past 2 months& been through so many tests only to find out that they still don't know what is the matter.     It seems so hard to be humbling sometimes, when we are in the middle of the storm, yet it humbles me when I hear other wonderful mothers stories similar to mine. I am a 24 year old single mother of 3 wonderful healthy children. I am so blessed to have them in my life. I struggle so hard to take care of them and they are patient and encourgaging.     I'm new to this so bare with me. I'm a single mom of two, 5&6 yr old children, i live in kent, OH and is struggling to make ends meet. I really dont know how im going to get my children christmas this year. I'm not working, trying my hardest to find a job any where at this moment so my kid can have a good christman. I dont get help from there father, he works but every since our divorce he feels if im not with him then why should he do anything for the kids. My family on the other hand is all for them selve, i know that sounds crazy but thats how they are. I don't have much to give but, what i have i dont mind giving. I just want to be able to see my children wake up with a smile on there little face of what they got for christmas. I cry almost every night about things they need, and go to god and ask him on ways to help me get through this alone and still be able to keep my head up! His Grandfather pasted away and He life long friend (dog) pasted away very recently so he is been through a lot for so young. He just moved here not very long ago and my husband has a min wage job. He brings home around 250 a week. The bills are piling up and we just could not have a very good thanksgiving so i would really like him to have a good x-mas. He just would not understand why "santa" could not come this year. I really would like any kid of help. He needs Clothes and maybe some toys to. He has been very good and really diserves it.     Hi im not working at this point in time i am in school and broke my hand working and ended up with RSD in my hand and i am almost done with school and plan on getting a job as a medical assistant so i can help those that are sick,and plan on giving back to the community.But at the same time im in a time of need my son is gonna be 12 the 11th of Dec and they found that he has a pseudotumor thats a false brain tumor which he has alot of headache's with.but would like to know If i could get toys for tots for him if not God bless everyone anyways he is on medicaid and staywell if that helps any...

    Last year on the last day, I signed my kids up for toys for tots at the local YMCA which was a blessing. I had no idea that programs like such were around. This year, I went back to the same local YMCA and was told I had miss the deadline to sign my kids up. I was wondering if there is any other places of such that donate toys that I can sign up for? "FOR MY CHILDREN TO HAVE A WONDRERFUL CHRISTMAS," I am a young parent who does everything she can to keep a roof over our heads, but i dont think that i can give a great christmas on top of that. this is my first year on my own and i really didnt realize how hard it would be, but everyday i do what i have to to make sure that we can make it to another day. i dont like asking for help because i always want to do it on my own, i dont want my children to think that i am a failure. i have realized that sometimes i have to swallow pride and get help. so to anyone out there please help me bring smiles to my children. thank you so much and GOD BLESS!

    Charlotte, 5 she is a girly girl. she loves princess stuff and she loves tea parties.
    Sayami, 2 she is into blues clues, dora the explore (especially "BOOTS"), and elmo he's her favorite.

    I tried to post earlier but got an error report...the problem we are having is that my husband and I are on social security and I am not 65 yet so my medical has ran out for the next 7 months and with that happening and Christmas around the corner I am looking for help. Our daughter and husband and children moved in with us from Michigan 8 weeks ago and he just found a job with a temp service after looking on a daily basis for just about any type work...he will be receiving a check soon but has to pay back child support every week to an x wife for 2 children and other bills which he has been good doing until now ...we always give help each year to people but find help needed this year for the little ones to have a good Christmas ..if anyone knows of any sorce of help I would greatly appreciate it ...as soon as we can we will gladly help another family in need as we have in the past ...Thanks and God Bless You

    Hello, I have 3 kids, one girl which is 16, and two boys which are 14 and 10. The childrens father is in jail and has been for the past 2 years. I have struggled so hard this year that I feel on the brink of a nervous breakdown stressing about how I am going to buy them there presents this year after all the run around that I have been doing with my boys because one of them has a heart condition, and the other is Bipolar and has Combined Type ADHD. I have been struggling to raise my children on my own for three years. My nine year old lost her father three years ago. Her grandmother on her father's side was getting a ssi check for her for two years and was not helping me with anything. I now get the check but after paying bills there is hardly enough to buy the house supplies we need month to month. It breaks my heart o hear my children tell me what they want for christmas and I know that I can't afford to get it for them. I'm still trying to get the rest of their school supplies. My mother told me she would take them in and I could see them whenever I want but these are my babies. I gave birth to them so it is my duty as a mother to take care of them. I usually make a way to give them something for christmas but now we have moved out of the projects into a home and the bills take every penny I bring in. I can't stand the thought of them not having a Christmas. They work so hard in school and they don't ask me for much because they know I don't have the money. I can see the looks on their faces when we're in the store . They want to ask for things but they know I can't get it for them. I hate having to tell them maybe oneday or i'll try the best I can. I want to see smiles on their faces. They keep me strong. They keep me going. They are my reasons for living. I want to be able to give them something to show them I appreciate them just being good kids. They deserve the best and i'm trying my best to supply them with it but for the l;ife of me I am struggling so hard that I really need help. i am desparate for help. Please if anyone can help me please my children deserve a good Christmas and so much more. Please help me put those beautiful smiles back on their faces like never before. I was always the one to donate toys, clothes, food, and money to the less fortunate people, well, people that were not having a good run of luck. But, now i find myself in that state now.     I am a mother of 3. I have a 5 month old baby boy, a 15 year old son, a 14 year old daughter. My husband was in a terrible car accident last year and can only work as a security guard, so our income is only $1200 a month before taxes are taken out. So after paying our mortgage, electric, water and phone besides car insurance we have next to no money left for even a small Christmas. He was hit by a drunk driver. It was a hit and run. They got the license plate and know the car left the bar but the owner of the car wasn't in the car so the drunk driver got away with it. Meanwhile my husband of 19 years can barely walk. He used to paint homes and do just about it any job and were just thankful to have food in our homme.

    I am a single mother of 4 daughters. The oldest will be 14 a week before christmas, I have a 9 yr old and my twins just turned 6 on the 13th of november. I'm about to lose my place to live due to unforseen circumstances. Shortly after that my only phone was shut off because of lack of payment and now my 94 mercury wagon has broken down completely.     I was trying to find out where I can get a little christmas assistance, I have heard about the programs but the Salvation army said their apps dead line was in October. I didn't know back then I would need assistance, My husband is in construction and it is so slow that he hasn't been able to get any hours and jobs are hard to find, I work but I make enough to keep rent and bills paid. I do the best that I can but I just cannot afford Christmas. Both of my parents are deceased and I am not married now. I am attending college and trying to better myself but I do get discouraged, especially when an emergency comes up. God has always provided and has gotten me through some really tuff times.
    Christmas 2006, this program helped me with my two children (my oldest is now 19) when my dad passed away suddenly on our hometown football field watching my son play in his senior year of high school (massive heart attack)I was overwhelmed at such kindness and was wondering if I could even ask for help again? My child is older and as we all know, the expense is very high. I do realize there are many younger children who need this program and you are amazing people but I just wanted to write and ask for help again if possible...Thank you for listening...

    didnt even know it was here until I looked it up
    on the web, so I guess if I can still get on the list that would be great ! as I am still waiting to see if my husband is going to be deployed again or get a medical discharge after 19 and a half years of service. I dont wish for ither for him. but what to do. he gets va compensation for his injury from last deployment but cant make ends meet.     My girls are older 17 & 18 so they understand that they may not get anything on Christmas day but as soon as I can they will get something for them. What we are mainly in need of is food for the holidays. We don't qualify for food stamps. The local churches help me every 3 months and the Salvation Army every 6 months. We are very greatful for all they do but it is only 2 bags each visit. I do make enough to pay the bills with very few extras so if anyone knows where else I may turn for help with a little extra food for the holidays I would be very thankful.

    Hello I am mother of twin 10 year old boys who was working full time and was barely able to make it and now after Thanksgiving my hours were cut mor then in half .I am having a very hard time making it this Christmas for my boys .My boys are good boys who do good in school and are well behaved .I have been able to provide for them past Christmasas but this year I have nothing to get them anything with .I honestly lay and cry myself to sleep after they both go to bed because as a mother I feel I have failed my boys .I have no one to ask for help .Its just me and them .They deserve to have something under their tree but I dont know what to do .What is a single mom to do to make sure that her kids have a decnt Christmas ?     Hello,I am a single mother of 3 wonderful boys Michael 15, Desmond 13, and Jared 12. we as many other families are having a difficult time this year. I am on disability due to a back injury and I am having my 3rd surgery on Dec. 5th I am havin a spinal fusion in which i will be unable to do anything but lay in a hospital that will be brought to my relatives w/walker to help me get around for 6 months or more and due to my injury I can not work. so my finances are limited and i can barely afford what we need. also my fiancee of 5 yrs walked out on us 6 months ago because he didnt know how to be loyal or take care of his family which made matters worse than it already was. as many other families I am askin if anyone can hel me so my boys can have a nice Christmas it would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much.     I am a single mother of 5 in texas and have been searching for help for a while now , salvation army cut off date was in oct. and toys for tots is not accepting anymore children as they dont have enough toys as it is. I have contacted united way and they are still taking apps. although its not guaranteed and they normally only take kids up to age 12.
    My kids ages are 12,10,5,3,2, although my son turns 13 on Dec. 7th so he doesnt qualify but they took his info. because there are companies that come at the last moment and pick up toys , also maybe check with red cross they might know.I have been searching for something and if I happen to find anything new I will repost on here and please do the same for me .

My manager fired me because we both share the same interest and that is the love of a woman. I didn't realise that the reason the man was so nice to me was cause he had a crush on me. So, he started treating me very badly trying to get me to quit. When that didn't work he fired me.My partner Carmen was doing the best that she could to support us until she suffered a mild heart attack. So,that forced her to quit. We couldn't afford to have money taken out of her pay checks for health insurance so she can't go seek help for the mild heart attacks that she gets at least twice a month. All we can do is have her keep taking baby asperin.I finnally found a job but every last dollar I get is to save for a the money we need for rent.I'm hoping that I can get help to give my partner and our three kids a great christmas. We share 3 beautiful kids Nathan 8 yrs.old Layla 3yrs.old and Breanna 15yrs.old all three are having a really hard time coping with "mamas'" illness. She is the one who is all ways the back bone of our little family. I was diagnosed with MS Margh of 2007 and I try to do the best that I can on taking care of our happy but stressed little family.I hope that I can get the help this christmas to give gifts to all four of my heart and souls. I don't want any gifts just the smile on all 4 of there faces is all the gifts that I want this year

    I am a single mother of two wonderful children 7 and 11! the really are great children they get straight a's in school, they hepl me around the house and they have huge hearts, however as much as i would like to reward them for all they are to me, the most important thing is to keep a roof over there heads and i am just barley doing that!! I finally got a new job in nov. ( after being let go in march)
    it has taken every dollar ive made since then to catch up our trailer payments so we have a place to live!!
    my children wont get a tree this year since all our decorations are locked in our storage unit( over due) but we have talked of making a paper tree just to celebrate!!!
    my boys are not expecting anything, i told them i would make it up to them later, and they understand, thats how unselfish and great they are!!! but i would love for them to have something!!! i am not expecting anything from this memo but it does feel good to get this off my chest instead of holding the pain in!! the most i can hope for is a prayer that they will still be happy on christmas morning!!!

    I thank god first of all.im happy nowing that thare is helpe for needed fam.well my husben an i straguling with bills an other personal thing for 4 to 5 month he just last month got a job on nov.now we are trying to catch up on bills an other thing im happy an thank god for his job,christmas is oraund the corner an this year wont be the same like other years just to see thare joy of christmas morning my son is 5yearold an my doughter is 10years old.

    hi, im a 48 year old grandmother raising 2 grandekids. the oldest will be 8 jan. 11th. she lost her mom in may of this year. my grandson just turned 2 in sept, he lost his mom when he was 2 1/2 months old in a wreck. they just left a christmas party, of course drinking a little, and my son fell asleep at the wheel. he is doing time in prison now, thats why i have the grandkids. i live on a set income and would really appreciate anything you can do to help!!

    Hi my name is samantha I have 2 beautiful children who deserve a christmas that i cant give them. I am a single mom and my children are 18 months and 5 months. I work 3 days this months on minimum wage and I can barely survive on food stamps. I just wish there was some way to give my kids a good christmas.

    I'm a single mother of three I work a full time job and it's still hard for me to make Christmas happen for my family this year.
    I've never thought that I would ever need help but I do. See my little girl has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis so she has allot of doctors appointment
    therefore I miss allot of work and it's really hard for me because I don't have any help! I'm blessed that my job it trying to work with me.
    I don't get warfare they say I make too much money to get help I'm so far behind on my bills that I pray that nothing gets turned off.
    But I just thank God that I have a little to make it but I really need some help I really would like to see them have a good christmas.
    I would like to say thank you if you can help, and thank you if you can't I would understand everyone it having hard times.

    hello I AM a single mom of my 11 month old. I get no support from his dead beat dad.I lost my job & car In AUgust and soon our home. I cant afford to have a place & pay bills. It is my sons first Christmas & I wanted it to be memorable. But I have no family to help no siblings I am alone. i am trying to keep positive but I feel so horraBLE he has no gifts. Where can i find help? Something for him to open! I alos have an 18 yr old who also has a dead beat father who never paid me! I lost all around. But she is trying to find a place to stay herself as i cant afford her to live with me. My family is falling apart here. CAN ANYONE HELP with at least one toy? Thank You ..

    Hi. My friend JUST had a baby girl two days ago and she was not expecting her until AFTER Christmas. She has nothing at all for the baby and does not have the money to get her anything on such a short notice.

    She also has a nephew who is three years old. His mom is working at a minimum paying job, while trying to find a job in her degree. She does not get that much at all from the father as far as finances are concerned.

    If you will, please contact me as soon as possible to let me know if it is too late to give these two children a decent Christmas. I know that the two mothers will be VERY greatful to know that there are some wonderful people out there that still care for others.

    I hope you have a Merry Christmas,because we will have a sad Christmas this year unless we can get some help for our 3 kids,one girl 13,one boy 13,another boy 12,Since the hurricane here in Gonzales,LA.we are unable to get our kids anything this year,My wife been crying trying to get some help,we are on our last leg here,then someone got in our account and took all our money and so far no luck with that,so pretty please can someone help us,Thanks God Bless.

    To whom this may concern;
    I am a single mother and I have a beautiful little girl by the name of Mia. A year ago I left my Husband who abused me and my daughter. We left California and came back home with out his knowledge, after staying in a battered and abused women's shelter. This was the best thing I could have ever done. After being in an abusive relationship with someone who used Drugs (crack) and hit me daily and stole everything (including Mia's diapers) for eight years, any situation is better then that situation. Everyday is a struggle I work full-time and I attend school full-time at a community college (unable to receive Financial Aid due to the fact that I had to drop classes to work a second job's to pay bills because my husband would steal all of the money and use it for Crack). I am looking for help in paying my tuition and Christmas gifts for Mia. At this point anything will help I have been applying for part time jobs all over town no one is hiring.

    Hi my name is Cyndi. Im a single mother of 2 boys age 10 Jaden & 1 Kayl. A few years ago my daughter Daereien died of a rare genetic disease called Battens disease. I am really struggling becauce a few months after my daughter died, my mother was murdered in Nebraska. The man who did it is in jail, but christmases are very sad. I do work, but unable to collect child support ive been trying to do it on my own. Please help me. Cyndi Clark
