Travels With Sheila
March 16, 2006
Are you old enough to look wonderingly towards what your retirement might be like?
I'm a Boomer, aged 46, and I see the handwriting on the wall. I'm a lot more obsessed with my 401k than I used to be. And I'm envisioning long walks on the beach, float trips, and perhaps some travel.
Well, the owner of today's FamilyFirst site decided travel was of the UTMOST importance for a happy retirement.
Here, I'll let her do the talking:
I am an addicted traveler. Unlike people who complain on crowded planes, I'm never happier then getting on a jet and going somewhere...anywhere. For a short time, there are no phone calls, grocery shopping, work, and everyday problems. I am off to a new experience with it's own new set of problems. Problems you would never think you'd encounter. But, that's travel.
Her name is Sheila, and the site is entitled Travels With Sheila.
And travel she does! At presstime, the most recent entry was entitled Snowshoeing in Europe. And what I really like is that she lets you know how to travel to exotic places on a budget:
We prefer to snowshoe in Europe for many reasons: airfares are cheap in the Winter time; you can hike up a mountain, down the other side into another valley and take bus or train transportation back to your start point; the hiking poles collapse and fit right into our 26" suitcases along with the snowshoes; there are no lift prices; hotels with half-board (huge buffet breakfasts and dinner) are much less expensive than even a motel in the United States.
Sheila seems to have a special affinity for Sri Lanka, one shared by science fiction's greatest living legend, Arthur C. Clarke. I got a kick out of her experience with Sri Lanka's biggest rain forest annoyance: leeches.
So have fun traveling with Shiela and her ex-Marine husband. Man, I hope my retirement is half that much fun . . .
