True Lies
November 29, 2004
The best offense is a good defense. Forewarned is forearmed. These are just a couple of sayings that show how the subject of today's Family First site is an appropriate and timely one. At first glance, this site may seem a little confusing, and it may seem to be an odd one for us to feature. But once you start looking around, you will see how valuable it really is, especially if you have children.
The site is called True Lies. It is an organization that was started in 1984 by Phil Chalmers. Essentially, it is a site that deals with teen attitudes and cultures. Today's media is lying to your kids about sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, and suicide. They tell them premarital sex has no consequences, drugs and alcohol make life more exciting, violence is a way to solve your problems, and suicide is an easy escape. How can you combat this? Get informed at a True Lies Youth Talk. True Lies speakers address issues using the very same media that students are plugged into, and tell students the truth. The average child spends four to six hours per day plugged into media. Most of the media is negative. Do you realize many of them are listening to and watching graphic sex, sodomy, rape, murder, violence, suicide, and pornographic images more hours daily then they are spending in their classroom learning? So, who is really educating our students? And what are students learning today from movies, music, television, video games, and the internet?
What goes on at a True Lies talk? Speakers will use the very same media that captivates today's students to get their attention, and they will keep it until the end of the talk. They use multi-media like videos, music, and Power Point, showering the audience with information and facts, and presenting truth in a manner they will understand. True Lies seminars are very up front and edgy; the way students are accustomed to. The presentation features many photos and video clips. The results of the True Lies Talk are amazing, with even the toughest students. A common response from a principal or youth worker is "That was the best assembly we have ever had," or "I can't believe how quiet and attentive the students were."
As a parent whose children are almost grown (only one left in high school), I can only sympathize with parents whose young ones are just starting school. Technology and the media has changed so much in the last 15 to 20 years, making it more difficult than ever to raise a family. Organizations such as this rip off the sheath of political correctness, and get to the core of the everyday problems that kids face. This is an excellent site to pass around to your friends and associates. Who knows when you or they may need it, and like I said earlier, forewarned is forearmed.
