Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer

It was just over 100 years ago that two brothers made aviation history by flying a man-made aircraft just over 100 yards. Since that event, the aviation industry has grown to mammoth proportions, and our fascination with flying has increased proportionally. There have been milestones in what can be accomplished with winged aircraft, by both men and women. There was the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, then the first solo flight across it. The first trip around the world, the first plane to break the sound barrier. The number and type of records goes on and on. Today's Family First Site visits the site of the latest record to be successfully broken, and like Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, it started and ended in Kansas.

The site is called The Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer, and is the home of the latest record breaking attempt by Steve Fossett. This record attempt was to fly solo around the world non-stop and without refueling. It was accomplished today, when his plane returned to where it started in Salina, Kansas. At this official site, you can explore all aspects of the flight, from it's concept and planning, through its execution and finally the landing. There is an interesting area on the criteria that must be met for this flight to officially be a record setting one. The area for children is also a must see area for the young explorers and prospective explorers, as it puts all of the highly technical information in a language they can understand, and through the latest Internet technology, make it visually interesting to watch.

Events such as this show that there are still new frontiers to explore and records to set. This latest attempt shows that even with the technology that we have at our disposal, it still comes down to the human element in the end. It makes one wonder what records will be the next to fall. Stay tuned!
