Weird Foods from Around the World

"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

I'm not sure who was the first to say that, but it applies to lots of life's areas, particularly food.

Nothing is more diverse among the worldwide community of man than his diet. What is considered a delicacy in some parts of the world turns stomachs in others.

That's where today's FamilyFirst site comes in. Really, perhaps more of a Warped site that FamilyFirst, it's still a family-safe, though potentially nauseous, experience.

It's called Weird Foods form Around the World. Here's their mission:

Nearly every culture invents a food that is weird or disgusting to outsiders. These strange foods from around the world are cultural markers to show who's a member (insiders like it) and who's not a member (outsiders hate it.) Maybe a group of kids started eating it on a dare. They then perpetuate it (perpetrate it) on the next generation. Then they nudge each other and laugh when outsiders gag.

So what's in store for you here? Well, let's begin gently, with drinks.

In Taiwan, a treat is boba ice milk tea. It's derived from a marble-sized tapioca pearl that is chewed along with the drink. Actually, it's quite sweet and delicious.

Then again, there's seagull wine. The Eskimos create it by putting a seagull in a bottle and letting it ferment in the sun.

Oh yeah.

The weird foods run the gamut from insects and arachnids of various sorts through the American turducken all the way to dried Philippine lizard. There are many bizarre stops along the way.
