Why New Linux Users Are Frustrated

I've been a full-time Linux user for nearly a year now, and it feels great to sidestep the various miseries that those who still use Windows in its various forms continue to experience.

Today's FamilyFirst pick is a nice little article written by Uber-Geek Matt Hartley over at Lockergnome.

Matt is one of my favorite Gnomie columnists, and today's piece addresses some basic issues that face would-be Linux adoptees.

The fact is that for 99.9% of users out there, thyere's no compelling reason to make Microsoft your primary provider of service on your computer. But many stick with the buggy, suspicious-of-its-users operating system because that's what their new computer came with.

Matt takes issue with some Linux distributions' (including my beloved Ubuntu) tendency to make wireless promises they can't keep.

If wireless isn't easily supported natively, users can save lots of hassle by proceeding directly to a Linux technology called ndiswrapper that will allow them to use their Windows drivers within Linux.

Check out his other arguments as to what Linux needs to do to get over the "difficult-to-use" reputation that it still unfortunately possesses.
