Wireless AMBER Alerts

It's a sad, sad fact that despicable individuals abduct children.

Savvy parents, as well as anyone else interested in stomping out this scourge, need to be prepared ahead of time.

One weapon in the battle against these monsters is a program called Wireless AMBER Alerts.

When a child is abducted, the alert is sent via text message and includes a description of the child, the abductor, the vehicle involved and other details, empowering local residents to become the eyes and ears of law enforcement should they come across the victim and the suspect. Simply by logging on to today's FamilyFirst pick and entering your cell number and your zip code, anyone can begin receiving text messages of AMBER alerts for the specific communities of their choice. You can also sign up by text message and the messages are also available in Spanish.

That's it! Names are never taken when signing up and none of the information is stored by the carriers.

So check out today's FamilyFirst pick, and please consider signing up for wireless AMBER alerts in your own community.

Most child abductions are done by parents or other relatives. Stranger abductions are rare.
